Afromoves was founded in 1996 by Tony Gomes, a pioneer who brought Kizomba, Semba and Urban Kiz to Stuttgart and Germany. The studio's mission has always been to connect people through music and movement, with authenticity, heart and cultural depth. Since 2023, the school has expanded its offer to include Salsa and Bachata alongside its core African dance styles.
The school operates from Wagenburgstraße 101 in Stuttgart, where Joany Gomes leads the classes. Joany has completed comprehensive dance training through ADTV and brings diversity, passion and precision to instruction. A second location in Reutlingen is run by Tony Gomes and Eva, offering students access to decades of experience in African dance. Both locations serve beginners through advanced dancers.
Classes cover Kizomba, Urban Kiz, Kizomba Fusion, Semba, Tarraxhina, Salsa and Bachata. Beginner courses introduce the fundamentals gently and make learning fun, focusing on feeling comfortable in the rhythm without pressure. Advanced students find technical refinement, musical sensitivity and new challenges, with opportunities to explore fusions across styles.
Beyond weekly classes, Afromoves hosts workshops, socials, parties and weekend events featuring UrbanKiz, Kizomba, Semba, Salsa and Bachata. The studio closes for summer holidays from 10 August to 30 August each year. The school positions itself as more than a dance venue—a community where dancers from around the world connect, whether you're new to the city or seeking connection.
