1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy is issued by LODance LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), the operator of lodance.app and related applications and services (collectively, the "Service"). LODance is a dance education, history, and community platform. For privacy-related inquiries, contact us at hello@lodance.app.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all information collected through lodance.app, our mobile applications, and any connected services. By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

3. Information About People We Write About

LODance is a reference work about dance, and much of it is about real people — competitors, adjudicators, teachers, choreographers and historical figures. Most of them are not LODance users and have never given us anything. This section explains what we hold about them, where it came from, and what they can ask us to do.

What we hold, and where it came from. Competition results, placements, event names, dates, divisions and partnerships, obtained from publicly published results of competitions and governing bodies, including the National Dance Council of America, the World DanceSport Federation, the World Swing Dance Council, the United Country Western Dance Council, USA Dance and the organisers of individual competitions. Biographical and professional information about teachers, adjudicators and notable figures, obtained from publicly available sources including their own websites, published interviews and reference works. Photographs, where we have a licence or permission to display them, with the source recorded.

What we do not hold. We do not hold dates of birth for the people in our competition records. We do not buy personal information from data brokers, and we do not sell or license our records to anyone.

Why we publish it.Competition results are published by the organisations that run the competitions, and a reference work about a sport is not possible without them. Our interest in maintaining an accurate public record of the sport is what we rely on to publish this material. Where someone’s interests outweigh that, we take the material down.

Children and young people. Some competitors compete in junior, juvenile or youth divisions. We do not publish photographs of anyone we cannot confirm is an adult, and where our records indicate someone competed as a minor recently, their profile page is withheld from public view. If you are a parent or guardian and you find a page about your child, tell us and we will remove it — we will not ask you to justify the request.

How to correct or remove a record. Email us at hello@lodance.app. You can ask us to correct information, to remove your photograph, to remove your profile page, or to stop contacting you. A request to stop marketing to you is always honoured, immediately and without exception. For other requests we will reply within 30 days and tell you what we have done.

If you are in the EEA or the UK.You have the rights described in section 11 below, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Because we did not obtain this information from you, you also have the right to be told where it came from — the sources are listed above, and we will tell you which of them a specific record came from if you ask.

4. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and any profile information you choose to provide (such as a profile photo or bio). When you use the Service, we also collect information you actively submit, including dance progress and skill tracking data, practice logs and lesson notes, dance preferences and goals, and content you share through community features such as connections and reviews.

Information Collected Automatically

We use analytics tools such as PostHog to understand how users interact with LODance. Depending on configuration, this may include pages visited, features used, device and browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, and interaction events. We use this information to improve the Service and do not use it for third-party advertising. This data is pseudonymous; while it may be associated with a session or device, we do not combine it with your name or contact information for advertising purposes.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not store your payment card details. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., our payment processor. When you subscribe, your card details are collected by Stripe directly and are never transmitted to or stored on LODance systems. We receive from Stripe only what we need to run your subscription: your subscription status, plan, billing period, the last four digits and brand of your card, and the outcome of each payment. Stripe’s handling of your information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy. We do not use Meta, TikTok, or other social advertising SDKs, and we do not sell your personal information.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to authenticate you and maintain your account securely, personalize your experience based on your skill level and interests, track your progress and help you see your growth over time, operate and improve the Service, send important account and service-related notifications, respond to your inquiries and support requests, detect and prevent fraud or misuse, and comply with legal obligations.

6. How We Share Information

We share your information only with service providers that help us operate the Service. These categories include hosting and database infrastructure (Supabase), authentication providers (Supabase Auth, Google OAuth), analytics providers (PostHog), email and communications providers (Loops), content delivery and DNS (Vercel, Cloudflare), and error monitoring services. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect your information.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

YouTube & Google API Services

LODance uses YouTube API Services to create and maintain educational playlists on our own LODance YouTube channel, and our dance style pages present that footage through YouTube’s standard embedded player. YouTube is what makes an archive like this one possible: the instructional, competitive, and social dancing footage our reference pages point to is hosted and served by YouTube on behalf of the creators who filmed it, and every view we send flows to those creators on YouTube rather than to us. Our use of information received from YouTube and Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. By using the video features on LODance, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. To learn how Google handles the data it receives, see the Google Privacy Policy.

What we store, and what we do not.We retain only stable YouTube video and playlist identifiers together with our own editorial metadata, such as dance style, performer, event, and year. We do not store, cache, or display YouTube-provided titles, descriptions, thumbnails, channel information, or statistics such as view, like, comment, or subscriber counts. No YouTube data is retained or displayed beyond thirty days. All live video information — title, channel, view count, and YouTube branding — is rendered by the embedded YouTube player itself, directly from YouTube. We never download, copy, proxy, modify, or play YouTube content outside the standard embedded player, and we do not place advertising on, around, or over it.

Authorization and revoking access. Our YouTube API access is used solely to manage playlists on the LODance channel, authorized by our own organization’s Google account. Visitors to lodance.app are never asked to connect their YouTube accounts, and we do not collect, store, or share personal data from your YouTube account — although embedded YouTube players may set cookies that are subject to Google’s policies. If you have granted LODance access to your Google account for any purpose, you may revoke that access at any time from the Google security settings page at https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions. You may also write to us at hello@lodance.app with any question about our use of YouTube API Services, and we will respond promptly.

7. Payments

Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe, Inc. Stripe acts as an independent controller of the payment data it collects from you, and its use of that data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy. Stripe may use information about your device and payment history for fraud prevention, including where you do not complete a purchase.

LODance receives from Stripe a customer identifier, your subscription status and plan, your billing period and renewal date, the last four digits and brand of your payment card, and the result of each payment attempt. We use this to provide the subscription you bought, to send receipts and renewal notices, to handle refunds and cancellations, and to keep our own financial records. We retain billing records for as long as required for tax and accounting purposes.

If you subscribe through a mobile app store in future, that store's terms and privacy policy will govern the payment and we will update this section before doing so.

8. User Profiles, Community Features, and Visibility

Some information you choose to share may be visible to other users depending on your settings. This includes profile details (display name, bio, photo), teacher-student and partner connections you accept, public studio information or reviews you submit, and shared progress items you choose to make visible. You can control the visibility of your profile and shared data through your account settings. Private data such as personal notes, lesson logs, and skill tracking is visible only to you unless you explicitly choose to share it.

9. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for login sessions and authentication, remembering your preferences and settings, security and fraud prevention, and analytics (PostHog may use cookies or local storage to distinguish returning visitors). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect your ability to use certain features of the Service.

10. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

Your data is stored securely on Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption and security practices. We implement Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure that personal data is accessible only by you and authorized members of the LODance team. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain account and progress data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, backup integrity, or dispute resolution. Analytics data is retained in pseudonymous form for up to 24 months.

11. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You have the right to access your data and request a copy of all personal information we hold about you, download and export your dance progress, lesson notes, and profile information in a portable format, correct or update inaccurate information at any time through your account settings, and delete your account and request permanent deletion of all associated data.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including the right to restriction of processing, data portability, objection, or appeal. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion under the CCPA/CPRA. If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

12. Children and Minors

LODance is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13 without appropriate parental consent, we will delete it promptly. Users under the age of 18 should use LODance only with permission from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@lodance.app.

13. International Users

LODance is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to such transfer and processing. We rely on standard contractual clauses and other lawful transfer mechanisms to protect data transferred internationally.

14. AI and Automated Processing

LODance may use artificial intelligence or automated systems to improve the Service, including features such as personalized recommendations, content organization, and data enrichment. When AI processing involves your personal data, it is subject to the same protections described in this Privacy Policy. We do not use your personal content to train third-party AI models.

15. Our Privacy Philosophy

We collect only what we need. Every piece of personal information we collect serves a specific purpose for your experience. We believe in privacy by design, collecting the minimum amount of data necessary to provide you with a great dance platform.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" above. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice via email or an in-app notification. Your continued use of LODance after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
