About this studio
Bachata Blues Edinburgh is run by Chrysoula and Joanna, two certified Bachata instructors based in Scotland since 2019. Chrysoula has over 10 years of Bachata experience and specialises in leading mechanics across all Bachata genres (Moderna, Sensual, traditional). She is trained by Marco & Sara (Esencia Method - Bachata Fusion), Magda and Valeria (Bachata Moderna), and the World Mastery program with Korke y Judith and Daniel y Desiree. Joanna brings 17 years of ballet, contemporary, jazz and heels experience, plus championship credentials in Latin Dancesport. She specialises in active following techniques and dance expressions. Together they offer more than 20 years of dancing experience across Bachata, Latin dances, contemporary and jazz.
Since 2022, the studio has pioneered high-standard Bachata training in Scotland. They led the first-ever Bachata teams from Scotland, which performed on major European stages including Benidorm Summer Festival, Bachata King Festival, Bachata Geneva Festival and Bachata Spain, as well as at Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Chrysoula is known as one of the most popular female leaders in the community for her gentle and clear leading. The studio now runs the first-ever Bachata competition teams in Scotland.
Classes focus on smooth partnerwork and functional styling for both leaders and followers. Students work on leading and following technique, social dance moves, functional styling, body movement and musicality. Group classes are offered at various skill levels, and private classes are available by email or via Instagram (@Bachatablues_edinburgh) and Facebook (@Bachata Blues Edinburgh).
The studio organises weekly classes and weekly Monday social nights where you can dance with the community. They also run monthly and yearly Bachata events featuring guest teachers. In December, they organise the Sin Fin Bachata Festival—the biggest festival in Scotland and the most international congress in the whole UK. The studio arranges organised international trips across European Bachata Festivals, so students can learn from top Bachata artists while travelling with the community.
The community is described as welcoming and inclusive, with a commitment against discrimination. Basic dance etiquette is supported, including hygiene and polite behaviour when asking for or declining a dance. New students consistently report a warm atmosphere and rapid improvement in their dancing.
