Dancemos Salsa Dance School

DanceMos is Hong Kong's biggest salsa school, founded and directed by Sherman Mosquito, a Hong Kong Salsa Champion with over 15 years of teaching experience. The school teaches salsa and bachata to over 100 happy students every year across all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced dancers.

The curriculum covers timing, rhythms and musicality, ladies styling, solo and partnerwork, cha cha, mambo, rumba, performance training, and foundational dance technique including body isolation, body conditioning, balance, spinning, shines and styling. Classes are taught to live percussion. The school arranges gender balance in every class to ensure an optimal learning experience, and no partner is needed — the school rotates partners regularly during classes. The beginner course runs for 3 Fridays from 8pm to 10pm (6 hours total) and is designed for students with no or little dance experience to build a strong foundation. Single classes are available at 200 HKD, or join a 12-hour package at 1800 HKD valid for 4 months. University students receive a 50% discount.

The studio occupies a spacious, bright 1000 sqf dance floor with 180-degree mirror, professional sound system, and a 400 sqf social area with coffee shop and changing room. Located on the 2nd floor of Kam Fung Commercial Building in Wan Chai, it's accessible via WhatsApp contact, with classes published weekly in the DanceMos app where students can book, check credits and access class videos.

DanceMos runs weekly salsa parties for students and members, creating a safe and beginner-friendly dancing environment with curated salsa music. Parties typically cost 150 HKD, include free soft drinks (BYOB and share), and are by invitation only with reserved right of admission. Membership is automatic for students who have completed and passed the beginner course, and is free for non-students who contact the school.

Sherman Mosquito has danced professionally since age 16, starting with ballet at age 3, later training in modern dance and standard Latin. She won Hong Kong Salsa Championships in 2010 (partnerwork) and 2018 (female solo category), and is regularly invited to perform and teach at overseas events across Taiwan, Singapore, India, Guam, Thailand, China, Vietnam and the UK. Her teaching philosophy emphasises a welcoming community united by passion for dancing, fostering mutual help, respect and communication in a healthy, harassment-free learning environment.

In the beginner course, you'll join 8–12 couples in a friendly, rotation-based class. Wear comfortable sportswear and clean socks (normal city shoes are not allowed); you don't need dance shoes or a partner. Expect to learn fundamentals of partner dance, connection, weight transfer and rhythmic work over three consecutive Friday evenings.

Sherman Mosquito, founder and director, is a Hong Kong Salsa Champion and professional dancer with over 15 years of teaching experience. She began ballet at age 3, trained in modern dance and standard Latin, and has danced salsa professionally since 2008, winning multiple championships including HK Salsa Championships in 2010 and 2018. She is regularly invited to perform and teach internationally.

The beginner course is explicitly designed for absolute beginners with no previous dance experience, with rotating partners, gender balance, and a safe, relaxed atmosphere.
