About this studio
Drey Dance Academy was founded in Toronto by Dreyser García, a Cuban-born choreographer who began his professional dance career in Havana with The American Theatre. After performing and teaching across Europe and South America, García moved to Canada in 2013 with the vision of building a Cuban-Canadian community through dance. The studio now operates from 842 Pape Ave and has become a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of age, experience or background.
The academy teaches a range of Cuban and Latin dance styles. Cuban Salsa (Casino) emphasises rhythm and musicality and is offered at First-Time Dancer, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Rumba classes explore the authentic, sensual dance that embodies Cuban culture, with no prior experience needed. Latin Fusion introduces students to Cuban traditional and popular dances including Cha-cha-cha, Mambo and Pachanga. Afro-Cuban dance connects students to grounding, centering and Cuban history. Bachata, originating from the Dominican Republic, is offered in Beginner and Intermediate levels with options for both sensual body movement and footwork-focused styles. Rueda de Casino focuses on the social aspect of dance through synchronized circle dancing with partner switches. The studio also offers Dance Conditioning, Stretch & Mobility, and Son Cubano classes, along with Men Styling instruction.
Classes run Monday through Thursday evenings, with Level 0 Fundamentals classes available for Cuban Salsa and Bachata, designed for complete beginners. Some classes require an assessment before enrolment. The studio is available for rent Friday through Sunday for private events and practice.
Drey Dance Entertainment, the performance division, has been enchanting audiences since 2017. The ensemble includes dancers, singers, drummers and fire performers from around the world. They have performed at prestigious events including the Hum Awards 2022, CP24, Breakfast TV and Caribana 2022-23, as well as Julia Domna's Enana Dance Theater in Dubai. The company performs at corporate events, weddings, birthday parties and special occasions across Canada.
