About this studio

Ecstatic Dance Oxford hosts monthly gatherings at South Oxford Community Centre on Lake Street—a space for freeform, conscious movement guided by carefully curated sound journeys. There are no choreographed steps, no talking, and no alcohol or substances. Instead, you move however your body wants to, alone or connecting with others, always with consent and respect for personal boundaries.

Each event is shaped by a dynamic musical journey that flows through peaks and moments of stillness. You can expect a rich blend of genres: tribal and electronic sounds, ambient, afro beats, deep house, indie dance, breakbeats, and techno, winding down into gentle, classical, acoustic or downtempo tracks. The experience is designed to help you release tension, break habitual patterns, and restore balance through rhythm and embodied presence.

Traxsky, co-founder and DJ, is known for crafting immersive soundscapes that fuse groovy, tribal rhythms with eclectic percussion and deep, rhythmic intensity. He began his career as a promoter in 1999, refined his DJ skills under Carl Cox and Pete Tong after relocating to London in 2001, and has performed across the UK, Europe, and Asia. His technical ability has been recognised through international DJ contests and by the Association of Music Producers and DJs.

Elise Tassell, co-founder and DJ, is an earth-centred teacher of yoga, movement, and ecstatic dance. Her DJ sets offer a vibrant journey through electronic music with deep, earthy basslines, uplifting rhythms, and expansive energy that invites expression and connection.

The event is open to anyone aged 14 and over (those aged 14–17 should come with an adult), regardless of dance experience or background. Whether you're new to conscious movement or have explored practices like 5Rhythms, you'll find a welcoming, inclusive space to move in your own way. Many events also include optional elements to deepen the experience: cacao ceremonies, crystal bowl sound healing, and guided meditation.
