About this studio

goooal is an Argentine tango school in Zürich run by Martin Omlin and Åse Synnøve Johnsen. They teach tango as dialogue and improvisation: the foundation is communication, and the dance moves through space and music as a conversation between partners.

Classes run at four levels. The Basiskurs (beginner, no experience needed) meets Wednesdays 18:30–19:30 and covers basic movements like ochos and simple turns, footwork orientation, and technique. You can attend without a partner. Mittleres Niveau 1 (1 year experience, Tuesday 19:00–20:30) focuses on connection, embrace, walking, turns, entries, sweeps, and boleos. Mittleres Niveau 2 (2 years experience, Monday 19:00–20:30) builds on turning, direction changes, rebounds, boleos, and improvisation to music. Fortgeschrittenes Niveau 1 (3–4 years experience, Wednesday 19:45–21:15) explores dynamic variation, different connections, saccadas, volcadas, colgadas, and ganchos. Fortgeschrittenes Niveau 2 (4+ years experience, Thursday 19:00–20:30) covers advanced technique, combinations, and detailed work. Most levels close for summer (13 July–16 August).

Beyond classes, goooal runs Practica every Saturday 17:00–19:30 (free practice, CHF 10 entry, CHF 5 for students) and Milonga Entre Dos on the first Saturday of each month from 20:30–00:30 with rotating DJs, live music in summer, and one drink included (CHF 15 entry). They also offer seminars and milongas with visiting artists: a Gran Milonga with Mariano Chicho Frumboli and Juana Sepulveda is scheduled for 25–27 September 2026.

The studio teaches open style first to help dancers develop balance and axis, then introduces closer embrace and distance variations. Partners are optional for beginners; intermediate and advanced students must bring a partner (though the school can sometimes help with introductions). Comfortable shoes are fine to start; as you progress, you'll need shoes with good turnability rather than soft rubber soles.

Beyond tango, goooal also offers Feldenkrais and Gyrotonic® instruction.
