About this studio
Iroko Latin Dance Academy brings salsa, bachata, and Latin ballroom to Tampa with a structured curriculum that takes absolute beginners through to advanced level. The studio's instructors are described as world champions with years of experience, and they teach classes six days a week across five levels of salsa on2, plus bachata, Cuban salsa casino, Colombian caleña salsa, and afro-Cuban styles. The beginner program is tightly organized: you start at Level 1 (fundamental movements and basic techniques), progress through Level 2 and Level 3 (advanced beginner) before stepping into Level 4 (intermediate) and Level 5 (advanced). Each level requires a minimum stay—typically two to three months per level—because different material is covered each month of the cycle.
The studio runs regular group classes but also offers private lessons (one-on-one or for two people) and auxiliary classes in social dance technique, body movement, ladies styling, and shines & partnerwork. Beyond the classes themselves, Iroko hosts monthly social events and dance nights where students can practise their new moves and connect with other dancers. The studio also runs performance teams for dancers who want to compete or perform on stage, with auditions announced periodically. Kids aged 6–12 have their own programme, and teens (aged 13–17) can join a free fall semester programme running October to December. Custom choreography services are available for wedding first dances, quinceañera waltzes, and surprise dances.
The studio can be rented for workshops, performances, corporate events, team-building activities, and private celebrations. Beginners can join new cycles at the start of each month on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. All group classes are open to solo dancers or couples; partner rotation is built into the group lesson format so you learn to lead and follow with different people. The studio emphasizes that absolute beginners—even those who claim to have "two left feet"—fit comfortably into classes designed for all skill levels, with patient instructors breaking down steps and providing individualized guidance.
