About this studio
La Candela Salsa Academy teaches Cuban salsa (Salsa Cubana), bachata, and Rueda de Casino at Ungdomens Hus in Malmö. Founded in 2018 by Louise and Karam, the studio now has 7 instructors training over 300 students each term. They have been teaching at all levels from beginner to advanced since 2014.
Courses run in structured 7-week autumn and spring terms, with a clear 9-level progression from Beginner 1 (no experience required) through Advanced 3. Each course level represents approximately 6–8 hours of instruction. Beginner 1 requires no prior dance experience and no partner—you can register solo and the studio rotates partners throughout lessons. Higher levels build progressively on previous knowledge. The studio also offers intensive crash courses, workshops, and a Movement & Technique course focused on solo dancing, flow, footwork, and body movement led by instructor Dominika.
La Candela emphasizes creating a welcoming, friendly atmosphere where students develop both skill and social connection. Many students find new friends among classmates. Lessons use proven teaching structure and methodology, with clear explanation and demonstration of steps and figures. The instructors are genuinely enthusiastic and pedagogical. All students receive access to videos of dance figures taught in class for home practice. The studio carefully selects music suited to each course level and style—pieces actually played on dance floors, not just in lessons. Autumn 2026 term runs September–October; courses meet once weekly for 7 lessons. Registration is open and payment is by Swish.
La Candela's instructors are active social dancers engaged in Skåne's Latin dance community and often perform at local venues including Mejeriet. The studio offers private lessons, performance opportunities, and workshops with visiting instructors.
