About this studio
La Despeinada Tango is run by Keila Luciano and Ariadna Zaehnsdorf, two tango dancers and teachers originally from Buenos Aires who have been teaching tango in Barcelona for more than 6 years. They met in December 2019 in Barcelona and began building the project together. Both are experienced as tango teachers, dancers, DJs, and event organisers.
The studio teaches Argentine tango with a distinctive philosophy: gender-role-free dancing. In their classes, they teach both roles equally, believing that the movements are the same whether danced by two people. They actively encourage students to try both sides of the embrace and do not define roles by gender. Their teaching approach prioritises fun, social comfort, empathy and inclusion, grounded in the belief that learning to dance should be enjoyable rather than punishing.
They offer three regular tango classes: one on Tuesdays at 18:00 (beginner level at Manso Espacio), one on Tuesdays at 19:00 (intermediate level at Manso Espacio), and one multinivel class on Wednesdays at 20:00 at L'Estranger. A milonga (social dance night) runs every Wednesday. They also host special events throughout the year.
Keila and Ariadna are co-organisers of the Tan Queer Festival BCN, now in its fourth consecutive year, a four-day tango celebration with shows, themed nights, and a focus on queer tango community. They have performed and taught internationally, including at the Auditori Barcelona in September 2022 (with 800+ attendees and 30 musicians), De Genere Roma in March 2024, Chamuyo Queer in Valencia in April 2023, and Queer Tango Geneva in October 2022. They are booking for a European tour in 2024.
The studio offers open-door events and free introductory classes to new students. Their September open day includes a free beginner Argentine tango class and an hour of practice, designed for people to make friends and explore tango without needing a partner beforehand. No formal dance shoes are required for first classes—comfortable footwear with low grip is recommended.
