Messina Dance teaches Cuban dance styles in Durham at TDS Space. The studio focuses on casino, rueda, kizomba, semba, and Cuban body movement & suelta.
Classes run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in 6-week series. On Tuesdays, casino & rueda is offered at three levels: Level 1 (6pm, no partner or experience needed), Level 2 (7pm, for those with basics), and Level 3 (8pm, for returning students). Wednesdays at 8pm offers Cuban body movement & suelta. Each class costs $95 for the 6-week series.
You don't need a partner to attend. Most people sign up solo and rotate partners throughout class so you dance with everyone. New students start at Level 1 regardless of prior dance experience, though if you have significant casino experience you can text the studio to discuss skipping ahead.
Each class runs 50 to 55 minutes of instruction, with the remaining time reserved for practice and individual questions. The studio also offers online courses in casino fundamentals and next steps.
