About this studio
Michael and Amy teach West Coast Swing at two locations in Vancouver: Famee Furlane Hall (Tuesdays) and Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (Wednesdays). Their story began when they met at a west coast swing dance, became practice partners, fell in love, and got married. Now they teach because they want to share their love of the dance by making it fun and easy for you to learn.
West Coast Swing is a versatile partner dance perfect for parties, weddings or nightclubs. It can be danced to a wide variety of music, including Top 40, Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, and Country. Michael and Amy offer a friendly, relaxed learning environment to get you comfortable enough to have lots of fun on the dance floor.
Classes run on 12-week sessions. On Tuesdays at Famee Furlane Hall and Wednesdays at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, each evening includes Fundamentals (6:45–7:40), a 10-minute break to practice and mingle, and Beyond Fundamentals (7:50–8:45). Fundamentals is an introduction to core concepts and techniques—no previous experience necessary. Beyond Fundamentals builds on those foundations with variations, styling, musicality concepts, and advanced lead/follow techniques. The material changes every session and is tailored to the students present.
Michael and Amy also offer private lessons on various days and times, and are available for wedding choreography and special events. They taught one couple their beginner's class in late 2014, who later asked them to choreograph their wedding first dance. Students describe classes as focused on connection, musicality, and creativity—after mastering basics, you're encouraged to explore options and develop your own style. Class sizes are limited, and pre-registration is required.
