Kathak is the classical dance form of North India, with roots in temple storytelling that evolved through the Mughal courts. The word Kathak comes from katha, meaning storytelling — dancers use hand mudras and facial expressions (abhinaya) to convey narrative alongside song and music. Between the 12th and 18th centuries, Kathak developed in both Hindu temples and Mughal palaces, absorbing Persian cultural influences and Urdu poetry while retaining its Hindu spiritual foundations. Today Kathak represents a unique blend of Hindu and Muslim cultural aesthetics.

Bollywood dance draws from the vibrant Indian film industry centred in Bombay. Known for its joy, energy, romance and colour, Bollywood combines cinematography and choreography that appeals to millions worldwide. The films themselves are typically three to four hours long with dozens of songs and dances, top stars, and — always — a happy ending.

Bhangra completes Rafia's teaching portfolio. She also performs and creates work for public and private events, including festivals, weddings, and EVJF celebrations (bride's night out). She collaborates with Sangeet Quintet, a group that combines song, instrumental music, literature, theatre and classical Indian dance. Notably, Kathak dance and choreography by Rafia Bon was featured in a French animated film for the first time.
