About this studio

RastaSalsa Dance is a Latin dance studio run by Tom 'El RastaSalsa', a musician and instructor based in Denver. Tom started learning Afro-Latin dance in 2009 and began teaching salsa and bachata in Denver in 2016. As a musician with origins from Nigeria, West Africa, he has been deeply immersed in music and dance for over 20 years. He combines his musical knowledge with a technical background (having worked as an engineer for Caterpillar for three years) and extensive tutoring experience to break down dance concepts and teach them in creatively different ways that connect with various learning styles.

The studio offers classes in salsa, bachata, mambo, and body movement and dance techniques. All first-time attendees start with the absolute beginner class on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am before moving to higher-level courses. Salsa classes run from absolute beginner through Level 3, with sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at varying times. Bachata classes follow a similar structure, available Mondays through Sundays. Mambo classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Body movement and dance techniques are offered on Sundays at 12pm and Wednesdays at 7pm.

The studio describes salsa as 'a spicy Latin dance with origins from different folkloric dances in Latin America' created from rhythms combined in New York in the 1960s and 70s. Tom brings 'the same energy and heat of salsa from the 60's and 70's that has taken the world by storm to Denver, CO'.

Private lessons are individually scheduled. The studio also hosts the Somos Gala Pro-Am Performance and runs a Somos Gala event. They offer gift cards and maintain a members folder. The studio is owned by Diaspora Dance Company and operates under the Somos Dance Studio branding.
