About this studio

Rio Rhythmics Latin Dance Academy has been teaching authentic Latin dance in Brisbane since 1994. Founded by Tarcisio Teatini-Climaco, who brought his experience in Latin dance, Brazilian Capoeira, and classical dance from Brazil, the academy was built on a vision of making dance accessible to everyone regardless of age, shape, or background. The studio has taught over 55,000 people and nurtured more than 60 teachers who now teach across the globe.

You'll find two dedicated studios in West End: Studio 1 at 163 Boundary Street features the original space with its classic high ceiling and large dance floor, while Studio 2 at 195B Boundary Street has a gorgeous balcony overlooking Boundary Street nightlife. The academy runs more than 30 classes each week, from beginner to performance level, across seven days. Classes and social dance nights operate throughout the week, with reception hours Monday to Thursday from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

The studio teaches a wide range of Latin styles including Salsa (Linear and Cuban), Bachata, Merengue, Samba no Pé, Samba de Gafieira, Bolero, Brazilian Zouk, and Tango. There are specialised beginner courses running every five weeks, a 10-week Beginner Latin Dance Course with unlimited access to all beginner classes in the block, and structured progression through five levels of dancing. Kids aged 9–12 and teens aged 12–15 have their own classes, as do dancers over 50.

Rio Rhythmics emphasises a social approach to learning, with parties, major events, and festividades alongside regular classes. The academy has a team of over 10 instructors who are world-class and extensively trained, many having studied in Australia and overseas. You can book a free intro class, try a 1-day or 7-day studio trial pass as an experienced dancer, or arrange private and group lessons with an instructor of your choice.
