Salsa Buena Dance Classes Cardiff & Cowbridge

Salsa Buena runs salsa and bachata classes across four nights a week in Cardiff and Cowbridge. Classes teach Cross Body Style Salsa On 1 (LA Style), from absolute beginner through to advanced levels. All classes happen in pub and club function rooms with bars, not in gyms or studios—meaning you can socialise, have a drink, and keep dancing after the formal teaching ends.

Shahid is the founder, director and main teacher. He began dancing in 2001 in London, where he studied under world-class mentors including Super Mario, Susanna Montero, Marchant Birch, Leon Rose, Tamambo, and Larisa Balogh. He travelled to international congresses from Spain to the USA. After returning to Cardiff in 2006, Salsa Buena grew out of high demand for his skills. The school has won multiple awards including Three Best Rated and Dance Classes of the Year from the Wales Prestige Awards. Shahid is regularly booked as a guest teacher at dance events across the UK and has appeared on mainstream radio, TV, and in newspapers. He has also provided choreography and dance expertise for TV dramas and films.

The weekly schedule runs Monday evenings at Rhiwbina Rec Club (7.30pm beginners, 8.40pm improvers/intermediate), Tuesday evenings at The Philharmonic in Cardiff town centre (7.30pm beginners, 8.50pm improvers/intermediate, 10pm all-levels bachata), Wednesday evenings at Cowbridge Rugby & Athletic Club (8pm), and Thursday evenings at Peppermint Bar in Cardiff town centre (7pm). Each evening includes a social dance and practice time with bar access.

You can start any week and pay per visit with no contracts or memberships. Book online before attending—classes sell out. Advance booking costs £10 per evening, or £8.50 per evening on a 6-evening Flexi Pass valid for 8 weeks. Booking on the day is £12. You can attend multiple class levels in one night at the same price. Most people come alone; partners rotate throughout class so everyone dances with everyone.

When you arrive, head to the bar for a drink then into the class room where you'll find regulars and new starters. The beginner class starts from absolute scratch with no experience assumed. You'll be partnered and rotations happen throughout (optional for couples). After class, there's social dancing time where you can practise what you've learned, socialise with classmates, and enjoy the bar and atmosphere until late.
