About this studio
Salsa in Motion runs weekly Cuban salsa and bachata classes at Brunswick Uniting Church Hall on Wednesdays. The studio emphasises teaching salsa with emotion and the ability to dance with anyone, whether they prefer Cuban, LA or New York styles. Over 17 years, the school has volunteered extensively with local councils, charity groups and community organisations, performing at multicultural festivals, Lions Club events, lunar new year celebrations and charity fundraisers across Melbourne.
At the Brunswick venue, classes run every Wednesday with a free introduction to salsa basics from 6:30pm to 7:00pm, designed to prepare absolute beginners for the main 7:30pm to 8:30pm beginner Cuban salsa class. Bachata has been added on the 2nd and last week of each month at 8:30pm. An intermediate Cuban salsa and rueda de casino class runs from 8:30pm to 10:00pm on the 1st and 3rd weeks, ideal for students confident with beginner steps and turns. Rueda de casino involves couples forming a circle with a caller directing synchronised Cuban salsa figures.
The studio welcomes complete beginners with no partner required and no dance experience necessary. Drop-in attendance costs $20 for a beginner class, $25 for the 1.5-hour intermediate class, or $35 for both. Discount dance cards of 5 lessons cost $90 for beginner classes and $115 for intermediate classes, valid for 3 months. Payment is cash preferred but EFTPOS (Visa or Mastercard) is accepted with a 1.9% surcharge; Diners and Amex cards incur a 2.5% surcharge.
The school also operates classes on Mondays at Point Cook Community Learning Centre and Thursdays at Bentleigh Uniting Church. Private salsa lessons are available on a one-to-one basis, with or without a partner, and can include wedding choreography. Upcoming events include Latin social nights with live bands; a 'Christmas in July' fiesta latina is scheduled for Sunday 19 July 2026 at Inner North Brewing Company in Brunswick, featuring live band Dirty Lopez and complimentary classes.

Studio history
Salsa in Motion has operated for 17 years. The school's philosophy centres on bringing people together through the magic of dance and music, recognising that many people in Australia's multicultural communities do not speak English as a first language or may be shy, introverted or seeking to make new friends. The studio and its volunteer performance teams have participated in numerous community, charity and not-for-profit events including Lions Club multicultural days, Brunswick multicultural festivals, harmony day celebrations, Latino festivals and lunar new year events.
