About this studio
Salsa Libre was founded in 2005 by Joaquim Aoues, a Salsa and Bachata instructor, choreographer, and official organiser of Copenhagen Salsa Festival and Copenhagen Bachata Festival. Since 2005, the studio has taught thousands of students in Copenhagen, many of whom continue to attend the weekly social dance events, and some have become instructors themselves.
The studio offers a variety of classes in Cuban Salsa, LA style Salsa, and Bachata at different levels. Classes run from complete beginners through to intermediate, with step-by-step teaching techniques tested by thousands of dancers worldwide. The studio emphasises technique—combinations, musicality, leading and following, body movement, footwork and styling. All classes are taught in English and do not require you to sign up with a partner. Beginners can attend intro classes at the weekly social events: Havana Nights (Thursdays), Salsa Fridays, and Salsa Sundays.
The teaching team is a group of hand-picked local and international instructors with significant experience. Joaquim Aoues has been teaching Salsa at all levels for many years and trained in teaching methods through Fernando Zapata at Latinodance Company in Berlin. Jakob García has danced Cuban Salsa for over 20 years and has taught for more than 15 years, known for an energetic and educational style. Francisco Dueñas is a professional dance instructor and show dancer with over 20 years of experience, trained at the School of Art Instructors in Santa Clara, Cuba. Susana Kuo Abreu won 1st place in the TV programme Dancing Stars in 2013 and has been teaching both Salsa and Bachata in Copenhagen for many years.
Classes are held at Kedelhallen, Nyelandsvej 75A, Frederiksberg. Prices for 6-week courses range from 600–900 DKK depending on level and duration, with discounts available for students and those under 30. All classes include entrance to a 5-hour social dancing event where you can practise, socialise and meet other dancers. The studio also runs private events, company events, and bachelor parties, and hosts workshops with world-famous dancers including Eddie Torres, Johnny Vazquez, the Vazquez Brothers, Korke and Judith, Kiko and Christina, Wilmer and Maria, and many others.
What to expect
Your first visit
You can start at any level—no partner required. Classes teach technique step by step in an easy and fun environment. Every class includes a 5-hour social event afterwards where you can practise and meet other dancers. If you're brand new, you can attend intro classes at Havana Nights (Thursdays), Salsa Fridays, or Salsa Sundays.

Joaquim Aoues (founder) has danced Salsa since the 1990s in Paris and trained in Cuba. Jakob García trained in Santiago de Cuba and has taught Cuban Salsa for over 15 years. Francisco Dueñas is a professional instructor with over 20 years of experience, trained at the School of Art Instructors in Santa Clara, Cuba. Susana Kuo Abreu won 1st place in Dancing Stars TV (2013) and is known for graceful style combined with explosive energy.

Joaquim is the official organiser of Copenhagen Salsa Festival and Copenhagen Bachata Festival.
