Salsa Soulseros

Salsa Soulseros has been teaching Latin dance in Tucson for nearly three decades. They operate as a private club (PMA) with a selective intake process designed to maintain a respectful, focused learning environment. Class sizes are capped at 16 students per studio, and prospective students must apply and interview before admission.

The studio teaches Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Zouk and Merengue. Group classes run in 8–11 week cycles at two locations (FLX and NDT), with separate tracks for beginners and experienced dancers. Mondays and Thursdays offer progressive instruction from basic to advanced techniques. On Mondays, classes run 6–7pm and 7–8pm at FLX ($12 per person per hour). Thursdays feature two courses: one covering Salsa and Bachata, the other Bachata, Kizomba and Zouk, both 6–7pm (beginners) and 7–8pm (experienced) at NDT ($12 per person per hour). All classes begin with individual footwork warmups, then partner work. Experienced dancers receive instruction in body isolation, musicality, turns, and shine work from the studio's master dance instructor. Couples attending together have the option to rotate or dance with each other throughout the class.

Private and semi-private instruction is available Fridays and Saturdays. Friday sessions focus on individual movement (absolute beginners to experienced) and partnering and connection. Saturday workshops cover similar tracks. Sundays offer Bachata workshops with hour slots available between 11:00am–2:00pm north of downtown Tucson. Private lesson rates: half hour $35, one hour $60, five hours $275, ten hours $500. Two-person sessions are $80 per hour; four-person groups $100 per hour. The studio also arranges wedding dance preparation—couples learn choreographed routines in Bachata, Merengue or Salsa to perform at their reception. Corporate events, office parties, university mixers and family gatherings can be booked; pricing varies by group size (10–120 participants) and location across the Tucson metro area, Oro Valley and Green Valley. The studio conducts elementary school outreach, teaching 60-minute Latin dance workshops that cover history, music, instruments and the social and emotional aspects of partner dancing. For over ten years the chief salsa instructor has delivered nationwide "Awareness and Avoidance" seminars at dance conferences. The studio also offers self-defence seminars.

New students typically attend a group class first before private lessons are offered. The studio assesses leading or following technique during private lessons and creates a personalised plan. Students who complete six months of training typically master the foundational rotational dance curriculum. The studio teaches on count "1" and divides students into progressive sections within each class, so newcomers train at their own pace alongside returning students.

Classes are open to singles and couples. Partners rotate frequently during group classes, making it easy to meet other dancers. The studio reports that male participation sometimes surpasses female participation. Walk-in spots are limited; advance sign-up is strongly encouraged.

You'll start with individual footwork warmups, then move into partner work on count "1". Classes are split into beginner and experienced sections, so you progress at your own pace. Classes are capped at 12–16 students and rotate partners frequently unless you attend as a couple. Bring smooth-soled shoes, water and an open mind; the studio trains students in dance etiquette, stress management and environmental "survival"—classroom temperatures may range from hot-humid to cold.

The studio is led by a master dance instructor who teaches experienced dancers in body isolation, musicality, individual turns and shine work. Rico and La Femme run Thursday courses. The studio's chief salsa instructor has delivered nationwide "Awareness and Avoidance" seminars at dance conferences for over ten years.

Absolute beginners are welcome; the studio offers a Complete Beginner Series and divides classes into progressive sections so newcomers train at their own pace.
