Salsa Vienna | Javier Marin

Salsa Vienna is run by Javier Marin Colorado, born and raised in Cali, Colombia, and a co-founder of Vienna's Latino dance scene. With more than 20 years of experience teaching salsa in Vienna, Marin has developed a distinctive teaching method designed to make Salsa Cubana and Bachata accessible to absolute beginners while building rapid progress through structured levels.

Classes run year-round across six salsa levels (Basic 1 and 2, Intermediate 1 and 2, Advanced 1 and 2) and three bachata levels (Bachata 1, 2, and 3). Salsa courses last four weeks, meeting once per week for 90 minutes per session; Bachata courses are four weeks at 60 minutes per session. Each week opens with a review of the previous lesson before new figures and technique are introduced. By the end of the beginner level, students have developed what Marin describes as "considerable ability." Advanced students focus on expanding their figure vocabulary and refining technique. Salsa Basic 1 starts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 18:00–19:30. Salsa Basic 2 and Intermediate 1 follow on the same evenings. Bachata 1 and 2 run on Tuesdays. Private lessons are available on request.

Classes take place at Günter / Restaurant, Bar & more on Wallgasse in Vienna's 6th district. The studio emphasises that learning is paired with enjoyment—a core principle reflected in Marin's approach. Students also gain exposure to Spanish language during lessons. Beyond regular classes, Marin organises the well-known Quimbara Ritmo Latino Events, which offer practice opportunities and a way to apply what you've learned in a social setting.
