About this studio

SalSeduce is run by Chris Pentland, who has over 12 years' experience promoting salsa events and runs the largest and most established salsa dance company in the North East. Chris teaches, DJs and performs throughout the region and beyond. He has trained with some of the world's most renowned teachers at major congresses and festivals, and has taught and performed at prestigious venues including the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, the Scottish Salsa Congress, and international festivals in Tunisia, Malta and Cyprus. His experience performing with the Latin Connection Dance Company has taken him around the world.

Classes run weekly at three locations: Tuesdays at St John the Baptist Church Hall on Grainger Street (7pm–11pm), Thursdays at Trinity Christian Community Centre in South Gosforth (7:30pm–10pm), and Fridays at The Black Swan on Westgate Road (7pm). The Friday class at The Black Swan is followed by social dancing with mixed styles and regular guest teachers. SalSeduce teaches salsa across three main styles—Crossbody (NY/LA), Cuban and Colombian—on a weekly basis, with regular Bachata and Kizomba classes alongside. The company also hosts monthly parties including SalSabado and The Chillout Lounge, which cater for dancers of all styles with music for all tastes.

Classes are structured by level. Beginners need no previous experience and learn the basic salsa rhythm, steps and partner work. Beginner Plus students focus on specific moves like the cross body lead and turn patterns, expected to progress within a month. Improver classes teach more advanced moves and styling over 3–5 months. Intermediate is a fast-paced class requiring comfort with the cross body lead, inside and outside turns and solid timing; students typically stay 6–12 months before advancing to advanced level.

SalSeduce prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming to all ages, backgrounds and abilities—dancers range from 16 or 17 through to people in their 80s. Partners are not required; the company rotates partners in class so everyone dances with different people and can practise both leading and following. The atmosphere is consistently described as friendly and sociable. In 2013, SalSeduce won the national 'What's On 4 Me' award for Best Music, Arts and Events Provider in the UK for salsa and Zumba classes and events.

The company also offers private lessons, corporate team-building packages, end-of-day parties, corporate functions with bespoke packages, and wedding packages. Guest teachers from across the UK and internationally are regularly brought in to share their knowledge and expertise.

What to expect

Your first visit
