About this studio
Samba Fit is a dance fitness studio in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1997 by Professora Carla Campos. Carla is a physical education graduate with more than 20 years performing for samba schools across Brazil. She created the Samba Fit technique as a Brazilian swing class mixing multiple rhythms — maracatu, samba de roda, dança dos orixás, and frevo — and adapted and patented the method in 1997. The first class formed on the Luiza Brunet model, and since then Carla has taught and gained recognition both in Brazil and internationally, including teaching in Austria and Finland.
Samba Fit is a physical training method that develops balance, improves conditioning and body posture. The approach combines sensuality, charm, elegance and joy with fitness gains. Each class lasts roughly an hour and burns approximately 500 calories — comparable to a spinning class but working the whole body, with particular emphasis on the glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and abdomen.
Classes are divided into three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. The choreography difficulty increases with each level. The studio adapts to all ages and works across time zones and cultures. During the pandemic, Samba Fit provided personalised online classes across all five continents.
