About this studio
Seattle Swing Dance Club (SSDC) is the longest running dance club since 1965 and operates as a local nonprofit organization. Based at the Alki Masonic Center in West Seattle, the club hosts West Coast Swing (WCS) workshops, FREE beginner lessons, social dances, and competitions.
West Coast Swing is a partner dance that branched out of Lindy Hop and is currently known for its smooth movement, stretchy look and improvisational focus. The club dances to a wide variety of music: classic and contemporary Pop, R&B, Funk, Blues, Hip Hop and more. You can choose to Lead or Follow, and many learn both. In either role, you will have the opportunity to authentically express yourself.
The club meets every first and third Sunday at Alki Masonic Hall. Each event typically runs from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM (or 9:30 PM) and includes FREE one-hour newcomer West Coast Swing classes, workshops with visiting instructors, open practice space, competitions for various levels, and three hours of social dancing with a DJ. Recent visiting instructors have included All-Star Phoenix Grey, Champion Estelle Bonnaire, All-Star Marie-Pascale Cote, All-Star Soleman and Angela Krebs, and All-Stars Leilani Nakagawa and Joy Davina. Local teachers include Lan VoBa, Miles Van de Wetering, Wren Newman, Scot McKay, Stephen White, and Patrick Tran.
In the community you will meet people who primarily enjoy social dancing, some who are passionate about studying movement, and others climbing through competition ranks—all dancing with each other. All ages are welcome, all genders are welcome, all body shapes are welcome. A lot of members are introverts who found community and friendships in this space. The club hosts an annual convention called Easter Swing at Hyatt Regency Bellevue, runs Westie University training tracks (Judging and Teaching), and organizes local competitions. The club also offers a Beginner Bootcamp (next scheduled for July 5, 2026 with local teachers Lan VoBa and Champion Stephen White) and has taught beginner lessons at community events like the Seattle Children's Theater workshop space at Folk Life Festival.
What to expect
Your first visit
Arrive at Alki Masonic Hall on a first or third Sunday afternoon. You'll find a FREE one-hour beginner West Coast Swing class to start, followed by workshops led by visiting or local instructors, open practice space, friendly competitions, and several hours of social dancing with a DJ. Bring a partner or come solo—the club welcomes everyone regardless of experience.
