About this studio

Sueños de Salsa has been bringing salsa and bachata to Seattle since 2011. The studio expanded to its current location at 5333 Roosevelt Way NE in 2021. Unlike other dance studios in the city, Sueños de Salsa teaches only Salsa and Bachata—no variety of partner dances—and specialises exclusively in "On2", the style preferred by many of the best salsa dancers in Seattle. This focused approach means every instructor is an expert in the styles they teach.

The studio's philosophy centres on authentic methods proven around the world to produce great dancers. You'll receive honest feedback about your skill level and know that when you put in work, you will improve. There are no gimmicks or shortcuts—just real results and confident dancers who know exactly how good they are.

Michael Cahn, the studio's founder, grew up in Santa Fe listening to his father's flamenco troupe and discovered salsa during Spanish language studies in Cuzco, Peru. He travelled to Havana to study with Yaykel Parez and has trained with world champions including Omar Muños and Johnny Vazquez. Michael and his dance partner Dana Sindona finished in the top 5 at the 2011 and 2012 Gemini Salsa championships, and he won mirrorball trophies at the Seattle Dances benefit in 2014 and 2016.

The teaching team includes Mojan Ahmadi, who joined as a student in 2017 and is a former Zumba instructor who loves adding styling and spice to dance. She primarily teaches beginners and intermediate level dancers. Jaime and Janita are also core instructors: Janita is a performer and choreographer from Hong Kong with over 15 years of experience in jazz funk, hip-hop, K-pop and heels. She emphasises cleanliness, lines, fluidity and finding your own style. Jaime started his dance journey as a choreographer in Mexico City and has performed with Sapphire, Yamulee, and Mi Esencia. Jaime and Janita won first and second place at Latin Dance Crown in 2024.

The studio runs beginner-friendly classes with no experience or partner required. Monthly salsa and bachata series are available. Social dancing happens every Wednesday at 8:30 PM with free admission (donations welcome). The studio also offers private lessons, special workshops, and a performance team for dancers wanting to take their skills to the next level.
