About this studio

Tango and I is run by Sabine Ibes, a tango facilitator and creative director who has been dancing since 2003. She has studied with masters including Gaston Torelli, Chicho Frumboli, Gustavo Naveira, Melina Brufman, Homer and Cristina Ladas, Brigitta Winkler, and Tomas Howlin. In 2014 and 2015 she was awarded study grants by MRAC and spent over a month in Buenos Aires each year. The team also includes Susan McKenna, who came to tango after decades performing modern dance and contact improvisation; Megan Harrington, who joined in May 2015 and is on the "tango fast track"; Avery Harrington, also on the fast track since May 2015; and Morgan Keil, who discovered Argentine tango in 2015 and brings a background as an elementary school teacher.

Classes and events are held at The Flying Pig dance Studio in Richfield, one block away from Minneapolis. The studio runs Saturday morning practicas from 11am to 1pm, where tango facilitators are on hand to answer questions about technique, musicality, steps, and vocabulary, and to offer mini private lessons. Milonga: Tango Fusion takes place every 4th Saturday of the month, with a mini lesson at 8pm and dancing until midnight.

Private lessons are available with Sabine Ibes at $85 per hour. Mini private lessons during practica hours are offered at $25 for a 15-minute session, $48 for two 15-minute sessions, or $85 for four 15-minute sessions. The studio also offers specialised programmes: a Tango Challenge for learning to dance tango in three months, Queer Tango Bootcamp, Argentine Tango Bootcamp, and Tango Technique classes. Past events have included workshops with guest instructors like Guillermo and Gaby, tango musicality workshops, and intensives.

The studio's vision is to strengthen, enrich, and expand the body of tango knowledge and to showcase the variety of ideas about Argentine tango as an art form. Sabine Ibes describes the mission as supporting "Argentine Tango as a catalyst to deepen generative connections, one huggable dance at a time." The focus is on deepening personal tango knowledge, building confidence on the dance floor, and fostering the deep listening and connection that define the dance.
