About this studio

The House. is a 2,300-square-foot event venue located at 900 Catherine Street in Richmond's historic Carver district, steps from Virginia Union University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The building dates back to the 1950s and was previously a church before being transformed into a blank-canvas event space that blends traditional charm with modern style.

You can book The House. for a wide range of events: small wedding receptions, business gatherings, health and wellness retreats, fundraisers, social soirées, baby showers, birthday parties and anniversary parties. The space features beautiful hardwood floors and exposed brick throughout. The venue is positioned as an affordable option in a prime urban location just off I-64.

The House. has hosted theatre productions and performance rehearsals—the directory shows Cadence Theater Company's 13 Jr. The Musical has practised there. You can also teach classes at the venue or host community events.

Full rental includes tables, chairs and black knit tablecloths. You get one hour before your event for setup and up to one hour after for cleanup, plus access to the sound system. You're welcome to bring your own food and vendors; food trucks are permitted (one at a time). You can decorate the space using painter's tape on walls, but glitter, confetti, flower petals, dry rice and nailed decorations are not allowed. Battery-operated candles only.

Alcohol service is permitted with a single-use ABC licence (required 7 days in advance), provided no minors are present and additional security is arranged. Events must conclude by 10pm (9pm on Sundays) due to city noise ordinance. Live bands are possible depending on size—contact the event coordinator. The House. has a small onsite lot with 5 parking spaces; surrounding streets offer 1 and 2 hour parking. The venue is wheelchair accessible with a ramp at the front entrance and two ADA-compliant bathrooms.
