Triangulo: Boutique Studio For Argentine Tango

Triangulo is New York City's only studio dedicated solely to Argentine Tango, founded by Carina Moeller in 1997. The studio has become a cornerstone of the city's tango community, moving through three locations over its 25+ year history. It began in an iconic triangular space above the Two Flags Butcher Supply Co. in the Meatpacking District—the shape that inspired its name—then moved to West 20th Street in Chelsea, where it became known for the vibrant mural painted by artist Russel Buckingham. Today it occupies a full-time boutique space, which means no rushed classes, no switching rooms between lessons, and time to connect and practice after class.

Carina Moeller, the studio's owner and sole instructor, brings a unique background to her teaching. She trained in modern dance, ballet, tap, and jazz at the Stage School of Dance and Drama, the G. Baudach Ballet Institute, and Ellys Dance School in Germany, graduating with honors in modern dance from DANCEWORKS Berlin and earning a theater degree from the Michael Tschechow Studio Berlin. Her professional career began performing internationally with modern and theater dance companies in Europe. After joining the Doris Humphrey Repertory Company in 1995, she has dedicated over 25 years to teaching and performing Argentine Tango. She has studied intensively with Argentine Tango masters including Pablo Verón, Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli, Danel and María, Gustavo Naveira, Mingo Pugliese, Julio Balmaceda, the Zotto brothers, and Carlos Gavito, spending extensive time in Argentina to deepen her practice. Her expertise has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times, The National Herald Tribune, and was voted "Best in Town" by The Economist. She has appeared on the Isaac Mizrahi Show, Martha Stewart Living, and The Today Show, and has taught public figures including Molly Shannon, Willem Dafoe, and Matt Lauer.

The studio offers group classes for all levels—Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—all taught by Carina. Beginner classes run 60 minutes; Advanced Beginner and Intermediate classes run 90 minutes. A four-week cycle begins at the start of each calendar month. Private lessons are available for one or two people, with options for 50 minutes ($140) or 90 minutes ($250), as well as packages of 5 or 10 classes. Beyond tango, Carina is certified in Floor-Barre® and the GYROTONIC® Method, offering private Gyrotonic® classes at 55 minutes for $110. The studio also runs Milonga and Practica sessions and has hosted tango events at venues like Essex Street Market and Pier 45.

Carina also offers private instruction at home, in your backyard, or via Zoom, with wedding packages available. She has taught workshops at Hunter College, the Spanish Institute, Yale University, FIT, and throughout Germany.

Group classes are structured by level and month-long cycles starting the first of each month. You'll work with Carina in a full-time boutique studio; Beginner classes are 60 minutes, while Advanced Beginner and Intermediate classes are 90 minutes. You can stay after class to practice and connect with other students. Single drop-in classes cost $32 for Beginner, or you can buy a month of classes at a discount.
