Bill Davies

William "Bill" Davies is an American professional ballroom dancer, teacher, coach and organizer whose competition record and decades of service to competitive dance infrastructure shaped the ballroom world from the 1950s onward. Davies began his professional career with Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1958, then moved to New York in 1963 to teach and compete independently. That move placed him at the center of the growing American professional and Pro/Am circuit during a formative period for competitive ballroom in the United States.

Davies built his reputation through multiple partnerships across International-style Ballroom. His most celebrated championship run came with Sandra Cameron, with whom he won the U.S. National Professional Ballroom championship in 1976, 1977 and 1978—three consecutive titles recognized by the National Dance Council of America. Davies and Cameron also won three consecutive Eastern United States Open Professional Ballroom titles. The consistency of these results across different partners demonstrates Davies's adaptability as a competitor and collaborator; he later won Eastern titles with Amy Block in 1986 and 1987, and with Rebecca Peter in 1988, 1989 and 1991.

Beyond competition, Davies sustained a long career as a teacher, coach, adjudicator and examiner. He held Fellowship-level credentials and worked with the North American Dance Teachers Association. He served in leadership roles within the National Dance Council of America and the Professional Dancers' Federation, contributing to the organizational structure that governs and sustains American competitive ballroom. In July 2008, the NDCA inducted Davies into the United States DanceSport Hall of Fame, recognizing his combined achievement as competitor, instructor and administrator.

Davies published the memoir and teaching work *Wanna Dance?*, a reflection on more than sixty years in ballroom dance. The book represents both a personal record and a resource for dancers and teachers seeking insight into the sport's evolution and practice.
