Carlos Rivera

Carlos Rivera is a Mexico City–based artist of self-identified Nahua Indigenous descent working across acting, dance, choreography, teaching, and directing. He studied at the National Centre for the Arts in Mexico and has built an international practice through long-standing collaboration with Red Sky Performance, touring and creating work that bridges contemporary dance, traditional Mexican dance, and Indigenous performance forms.

Rivera's artistic practice is rooted in the integration of multiple disciplines. His choreographic work appears alongside his roles as performer, teacher, and director, with particular attention to how movement can carry cultural specificity and narrative weight. He has taught and choreographed in Canada while maintaining his international profile.

A notable collaborative work is *Mistatim*, created with choreographer Sandra Laronde for digital engagement. The piece uses mask, movement, projected media, and narrative structure to create a dance-theatre experience designed to connect young audiences with Indigenous themes. In this work, Rivera's choreography operates within a cross-media environment where traditional forms and contemporary visual technology work together to shape meaning.
