Daniel Wiles

Daniel Wiles is a winter guard and color guard educator whose three-decade career spans performance, instruction, design, and program leadership in the WGI competitive circuit. He began as a performer with the Cavalier Cadets from 1980 to 1984, then joined the Cavaliers from 1985 to 1989, gaining formative experience in the all-male guard tradition. Moving into instruction and design, Wiles guided Lincoln-Way to the WGI Scholastic A title in 1990 and worked with Southport, which became a four-time finalist. In 2000, he took charge of Avon High School's winter guard program in Indiana, establishing what would become one of Scholastic World's most consistently successful ensembles. Avon won the Scholastic Open championship in 2001 and entered Scholastic World in 2002, where it remained in the top five every season except 2012 through Wiles's documented tenure. Under his leadership, Avon won Scholastic World titles in 2009 and 2018, followed by gold with *The Age of Anxiety* in 2022, accumulating eight additional medals by the time of his Hall of Fame induction. Wiles was inducted into WGI's Hall of Fame in 2019, a recognition that honors sustained educational influence and competitive excellence across more than three decades. His achievement reflects the coordinated work of student performers, instructional staff, and designers whose individual contributions shaped Avon's sustained success.
