Incredible Zigi

Michael Amofa, professionally known as Incredible Zigi, is a Ghanaian choreographer and dancer whose compact social-dance inventions have circulated internationally through challenges, pop performance and screen choreography. Born in Accra on 17 October 1994, Zigi developed as a dancer in street and workshop contexts, with support from an older brother. His sustained dance practice began in his early years, and he went on to become known for combining Ghanaian popular-dance vocabulary with hip-hop foundations and social-media presentation.

Zigi's strongest documented authorship claims concern two steps: Pilolo and Kupe. Pilolo takes its name from a Ghanaian children's hide-and-seek game, while Kupe became attached to A-Star's song and sparked a global challenge. Both steps traveled because their motifs were visually distinct, repeatable and open to variation—qualities that made them ideal for short-form digital circulation and ensemble adaptation.

In 2018, Janet Jackson performed Pilolo and Kupe during "Made for Now" on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, offering unusual mainstream visibility for a Ghanaian dance creator. The moment also illustrated a recurring challenge: viral circulation often separates a step from its maker. Zigi has worked to maintain creator credit while allowing his steps to evolve in the hands of other dancers.

Throughout the 2020s, Zigi expanded his practice across multiple platforms. In 2019, he released the *Omo Ada* official dance movie, preserving his screen choreography and performance practice. He appeared in music videos by Kuami Eugene, Patoranking, Stonebwoy and others. In 2023, his choreography and lead-dancer work for Yemi Alade's *Baddie* video contributed to a production that won Best Music Video at the Trace Awards. That same year marked his continued visibility in major African pop production.

In June 2022, Zigi launched the maiden AfroZig Dance Fiesta as a platform for dancers, shifting focus from individual virality toward infrastructure for the community. By 2025, he had received a Best Dancer nomination at the Trace Awards & Summit. His work now spans stage appearances, music-video choreography, digital challenges and community initiatives, making him a case study in authorship and transmission within contemporary African popular dance.
