Lynn Harman is a British ballroom and Latin dancer whose competitive partnership with Peter Maxwell spanned both amateur and professional ranks, making her one of Britain's most accomplished all-round postwar competitors. Born 23 April 1953 in London, Harman began competing at eleven after progressing through the medal-test system. The partnership with Maxwell, which started in childhood, achieved three Open British Junior Ballroom and Latin titles, the first when Harman was thirteen, and progressed to youth championship success in both disciplines by sixteen.
The pair appeared on a major stage early: the Royal Albert Hall programme lists Maxwell and Harman among competitors at the International Ballroom Dancing Championships on 30 October 1969, broadcast by the BBC that evening. They turned professional in 1974 as leading amateurs in both Ballroom and Latin. The professional record shows particular strength in Latin: the British Dance Council records them as British Open Professional Latin champions in 1976 and 1978, United Kingdom Professional Latin champions in 1977, and British National Professional Latin champions in 1977. They also won the World Professional Latin championship, the World Cup 10-Dance, and reached the British Open Professional Ballroom final—a range across both international disciplines that defined their competitive significance.
