Monica Nigro

Monica Nigro is an Italian International Standard ballroom dancer, teacher, lecturer and adjudicator whose competitive partnerships with Domen Krapez and Valerio Colantoni reached major international finals across two decades. Born in a small town in northern Italy, she began dancing at four and competed in traditional dance between roughly six and eleven before moving into ballroom and Latin as a teenager.

In June 2003, Nigro formed a Standard partnership with Slovenian dancer Domen Krapez and represented Slovenia. The couple's competitive record includes first place at the 2004 International Open in Albena, Bulgaria, second place at the 2005 International Open in Marseille, and tenth place at the 2005 World Standard Championship in Vilnius. After turning professional at twenty-three, Nigro reached a world professional championship final in 2006. She and Krapez continued their professional partnership well beyond their amateur registration, placing second at the 2014 European Professional Ballroom Championship.

In December 2014, Nigro began a new professional partnership with Italian dancer Valerio Colantoni. The couple reached the UK Open final within weeks of forming and made finals across major professional events. They lectured at the 2019 World Ballroom Dancing Congress in Blackpool, and in October 2020 the World Dance Council presented their online lecture "How to Create Personality in Ballroom Dancing." A subsequent online course focused on lead and follow dynamics. The partnership ended in 2021.

Nigro's pedagogical approach emphasizes personality, lead-and-follow clarity, and expressive relationship over mechanics alone. She has worked as an international adjudicator and continues to teach professionally, with recent assignments including adjudication at the 2026 Asia Open Dance Tour.
