Paul Killick

Paul Killick is a British Latin dancer and ballroom professional who rose to prominence in the late 1990s as an International-style Latin competitor. He first entered the championship record in 1998 when he and Karina Smirnoff won the British National Professional Latin title. His most sustained and successful partnership was with Finnish dancer Hanna Karttunen, with whom he claimed four consecutive British National Professional Latin championships from 2000 to 2003. In 2002, Killick and Karttunen added the United Kingdom Professional Latin championship to their achievements. In 2004, as his principal competitive period drew to a close, Killick transitioned into television work, appearing on the BBC's *Strictly Come Dancing* in its inaugural series partnered with actor Verona Joseph, and returning for the second series with television presenter Carol Vorderman. His participation in the early seasons of the programme helped bring elite competitive Latin technique to the emerging celebrity-ballroom format that would define British television dance for the following decades. After his television debut, Killick moved into coaching, adjudication, and event organization. The World DanceSport Federation issued him a general-adjudicator licence in 2009 covering Latin, Standard, and Ten Dance disciplines, though this credential is no longer active.
