This is the edition the step corpus was actually extracted from: all 1,787 steps rows with provenance ilike '%laird%' carry the token Laird-Latin-4ed-1988-pNNN-, zero exceptions (re-measured by archives 2026-09-08). Until now those steps reached the catalogue through LOD-1972-LAIRD, the 1972 FIRST edition, which made every surface citing them state a false edition. The 1972 row is a real and separate publication and is deliberately NOT being edited. The 121 figure_appearances rows still on LOD-1972-LAIRD have NOT yet been re-keyed to this row: steps_engine asked to re-verify that their clearance and RLS predicates resolve a new syl_id before the move, and that verification is theirs to run. Page-cited provenance strings on the step rows are preserved verbatim per legal 6153 s4 (FRCP 37(e)).
