Flex Is Kings (2013)
Filmed inside East New York's DIY Battlefest scene, Deidre Schoo and Michael Beach Nichols preserve flexing as community-authored narrative dance: bone-breaking contortions, glides, hat tricks, and theatrical battle “punchlines” grow directly from Brooklyn lives rather than being packaged as generic hip-hop spectacle.
Flex Is Kings is a 2013 dance documentary centred on ballroom and social dance. For dancers, it's a chance to see the style performed on screen — the phrasing, partnering, and musicality that the same dances carry onto a real floor.

A close East New York crowd reacting as dancers turn gun battles, romantic interludes, and run-ins with authorities into competitive flex stories.
The Battlefest structure makes flexing read as authored narrative: bone-breaking contortions, glides, and street-story scenarios turn each encounter into theatrical call-and-response with the crowd.

Flizzo's live-bird Battlefest punchline
Danced by Flizzo
A live zebra finch appearing at the climax of the Battlefest trick.
Flizzo turns surprise into movement dramaturgy: the live-bird reveal lands because the flex battle is built around character, timing, and an impossible theatrical image.

Jay Donn's Flex Wars illusion routine
Danced by Jay Donn
The 15-foot balcony somersault after the fake-hand and self-moving-sneaker illusions.
Jay Donn builds a gravity-defying Flex Wars set from fake-hand and fishing-line sneaker illusions, escalating the theatrical misdirection into a balcony somersault.
