Sweet spot means the BPM is near the center of the dance's tempo range — the most natural fit. Good fit means the song works well but isn't dead center. Near-misses within 5 BPM of the range boundaries show as alternatives.

Song Search queries a library of 36,000+ songs tagged by dance style. If your song isn't in the library yet, the Continuous Engine or Tap Tempo will get you a reliable BPM in seconds — just let it listen or tap along for a few beats.

The Continuous Engine listens passively — set it and forget it. It adapts in real-time to tempo changes within and between songs, showing beat visualizers for all matching dances simultaneously. Tap Tempo is a quick manual method when you want to tap along for a few beats.

BPM here means beats per minute, the pulse you tap along to, not bars (measures) per minute, which some ballroom syllabi use instead. 120 beats per minute sits inside the published competition tempo for Cha-Cha (120-128, WDSF), Slow Foxtrot (112-120, WDSF and DVIDA) and Paso Doble (120-124, WDSF and DVIDA). It is below the DVIDA social range for East Coast Swing (128-148), so a 120 BPM song will feel slow for it. The engine ranks dances by proximity to each one's sweet spot.
