About LODance Opportunities

A worldwide directory of dance classes, socials, workshops, congresses, and competitions — built so dancers can find what's happening without scrolling through five different Facebook groups.

What this is

LODance Opportunities is the public face of an event-ingestion pipeline. We crawl studio websites, ICS feeds, Eventbrite, and other public sources every few hours, parse what we find, and publish what looks legitimate. We also accept direct submissions from organizers and dancers.

The framing matters: this is an engine, not an inventory. On any given day, the event list isn't a snapshot of everything happening — it's a snapshot of what our pipeline has currently surfaced. Coverage compounds over time as our crawlers learn and as more organizers submit. If you don't see something you know about, please submit it — every submission makes the next dancer's search better.

Where the events come from

Three sources, in roughly this priority:

  1. Direct submissions from studio owners, instructors, organizers, and dancers. Verified studio owners and verified organizers auto-publish; everyone else goes through curator review.
  2. Studio & venue websites with public class schedules or event calendars. We parse ICS feeds, JSON-LD metadata, and HTML pages.
  3. Event platforms like Eventbrite. We use the official APIs where available, and we respect rate limits and terms of service.

We don't scrape Facebook events — Facebook's terms make that difficult to do legitimately. If a Facebook event is the authoritative source, please submit it directly.

Weekly digest

Every metro we cover gets an optional weekly email summarizing the coming week's events — classes, socials, workshops, and competitions in one scan-friendly list. It's the quickest way to stay current without checking the site every day. Subscribe here.

How we handle quality

Every event candidate gets a confidence score (0–100) based on how complete and consistent its fields are. Events at or above 90 auto-publish; everything below 90 lands in a curator queue. False positives still happen — if you spot a typo, a wrong venue, or a duplicate, the correction form on every event detail page closes the loop fast.

Who's behind this

LODance is built by Perry Chaffee, a longtime social dancer in the Boston / New England scene. The Opportunities Engine is one of a few tools LODance ships; it's the one you'll find at lodance.app/opportunities.
