About this studio
The Dance Scene has been a hub for ballroom and Latin dance in Metro Detroit since 1976, when it opened behind the Cattleman's at I-696 and Van Dyke Avenue. Now led by owner and instructor Anna, an accomplished dancer from Poland who taught alongside the studio's founder Bart Ferko for over 25 years, the studio welcomes all ages and skill levels.
The studio offers three main formats: private lessons tailored to your goals and pace, group classes structured as progressive 6-week courses (such as Tango I for beginners), and regular social dance parties. Group classes cover one dance style per course and cost $89 per person for the 6-week run, with a 15% discount available for six bundled courses at $76 per class. Private lessons focus on body movement and connection rather than choreography alone, allowing students to learn faster one-on-one and build confidence through proper technique. The studio emphasizes that most social dancing happens at bronze level—the first 10 steps in each style—and works with male students on active leading and female students on responding to and enhancing movement.
Wedding couples can book five private lessons with custom choreography for $500. First-time students receive a special offer: three 50-minute private sessions for $225 (regularly $315), and partners can join for the same price. Dance parties are available on a card system: buy 10 and get 2 free for $200.
The Dance Scene teaches Ballroom (Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango), Latin (Salsa, Bachata, Cha-Cha, Rumba), Swing, and Hustle. Group classes include an introductory course called Intro to Ballroom and Latin Dancing, plus themed 6-week progressions. The studio also hosts the West Coast Swing International Rally as a 10-week group course. As an independent studio rather than a franchise, the studio says it can offer more value and flexibility in payment plans.
