About this studio

Akademie für Flamenco, Bachata & Salsa is run by La Cati and José Manuel Sánchez Moreno, both flamencotanzer, choreographers and dozenten (instructors). The academy is officially recognised by the Landesregierung (state government) as a culture and vocational training centre for stage flamenco dance, affirming their proficiency in teaching both amateur and professional dancers. They offer running courses, workshops and private lessons in flamenco, salsa and bachata at all levels from beginner to advanced and professional.

The studio occupies 150 square metres of space in Düsseldorf Unterbilk, near the harbour. The dance room itself measures approximately 72 square metres and is furnished with a joint-friendly sprung floor, two continuous mirror walls, and a large ventilation system. An inviting foyer with Spanish atmosphere leads through to the studio; two large windows in the dividing wall allow observation of classes from outside. Separate, well-maintained changing rooms, toilets and shower facilities are provided.

The academy runs an active performance arm: La Cati and José Manuel perform as a flamenco ensemble for events, concerts and television productions. They also choreograph for opera, theatre and variety stages. Their 20-year jubilee concert in 2024 marked two decades of artistic work in the city.

A trial lesson (Probestunde) costs 9 euros and requires no commitment. The source emphasises that flamenco is learned "not with the feet, but with the heart" and invites newcomers to bring only themselves, joy in movement and appreciation of Spanish music.
