About this studio
Bachatify is Bristol's dedicated Bachata academy, run by Charlie, a dancer and instructor with over 14 years of dance experience and 9 years of teaching. Charlie has travelled across Europe learning from top Bachata and Salsa instructors at festivals, and his background as a drummer gives him a deep understanding of musicality—helping students connect with the music and express themselves through movement.
Classes run on Tuesdays at Southbank Club and Thursdays at Unity Studios on Smythe Road. The academy offers four distinct levels of Bachata—from absolute beginner to advanced—so you can join at the right point on your journey. Tuesday classes are: Level 0 and Level 1 (18:15–19:15), Level 2 (19:45–20:45), and Level 3 (21:15–22:15). Thursday offers Level 2 (20:00–21:00). The curriculum covers traditional Bachata, modern and urban Bachata (which incorporates elements from Salsa, Zouk and other styles), and sensual Bachata focusing on body isolations and intimate connection.
Bachatify's teaching approach is progressive and structured. You receive expert guidance and personalised feedback, monthly practice sessions, and teacher input on your development. The academy emphasises building confidence, rhythm and joy within a supportive, growth-focused community. One of the rewards of learning here is students taking their dancing beyond Bristol—meeting people and dancing in cities around the world.
Beyond weekly classes, Bachatify runs all-day workshops designed for dancers ready to improve fast. The Bachatify day event offers three simultaneous streams (Ignite, Grow, Flourish) with balanced leader and follower numbers, clear visibility of teachers, and structured progression. The academy also hosts social dance events: a Pure Social night (95% Bachata) and party events throughout the year. Charlie is also a lead instructor at Monday Salsa Fix and a director of Bristol Latin Project Limited, deepening his role in Bristol's Latin dance scene.
