About this studio

Baila Wichita is a Latin dance studio at 125 S Hydraulic Ave in Wichita, Kansas, founded on the principle of cadence, culture, and connection. The studio offers weekly group classes in Salsa (On-2 and Casino), Bachata, Cumbia, Hip Hop, and a Survey of Afro-Latin Dance that explores four genres over eight weeks: Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, and Salsa.

The group class structure is carefully levelled. For Salsa, there are four levels: Level 1 (Beginner Salsa On-2, Tuesdays 6:15–7:15 PM), Level 2 (Beginner Salsa On-2, Wednesdays 6:15–7:15 PM), Level 3 (Advanced Beginner Salsa On-2, Wednesdays 6:15–7:15 PM), and Level 4 (Intermediate Salsa On-2, Wednesdays 7:15–8:15 PM). Beginner Salsa classes require starting at week one of each month and completing two months before advancement; Level 4 allows limited drop-ins with prerequisites. There is also a Ladies Styling for Salsa On-2 class focusing on posture, arm work, and expressive movement. Bachata classes run at multiple levels: Level 1 (Tuesdays 7:15–8:15 PM), Level 2 (Tuesdays 6:15–7:15 PM), Intermediate Bachata (Tuesdays 7:15–8:15 PM), and Bachata Sensual (Tuesdays 8:15–9:15 PM), with Intermediate and Sensual classes welcoming drop-ins. Open Level Cumbia runs Mondays 6:15–7:15 PM with a focus on footwork and partnerwork, and drop-ins are welcome. Adult Femme Hip Hop meets Thursdays 6:00–7:00 PM.

Private lessons are available through multiple instructors. Elisa, the owner and lead instructor, teaches Salsa (Beginner through Advanced in both On-2 and Casino styles), Ladies Styling, spinning technique, and beginner Bachata, Cumbia, and Merengue at $85 per hour. Miguel (Lead Instructor) offers Salsa (Beginner through Advanced), beginner Bachata, beginner Merengue, and music lessons at $65 per hour. Hannah (Lead Instructor) teaches Bachata at all levels, Bachata Sensual, and Merengue at $65 per hour. The studio hosts monthly socials on the 2nd Saturday of each month and weekly open practice sessions for students to refine their skills. Baila Wichita also organises the Afro-Latin Dance & Music Festival, a three-day event scheduled for October 9–11, 2026, featuring dance workshops, historical panels presented by Wichita State University, live music by Tumbao (Wichita's premier salsa band), and social dancing.
