About this studio
Baldovin Ballet Zagreb was founded in 2020 by George Alexandru Baldovin, a former ballet dancer who performed with HNK Zagreb, SNG Maribor, European Ballet London, and the opera houses of Bucharest, Iași and Constanța. During his professional career, Baldovin worked with world-renowned choreographers including Vladimir Malachov, Nacho Duato, Irek Muchamedov, Eduard Clug, Patrice Bart, Youri Vamos, Leo Mujić, Valeri Koftun, Victor Litvinov, Derek Dean, Van Mannen, Milko Sparemblek, Lorca Massine, Joyce Cuoco, Vladimir Drevianko, Pascal Tozeau and Paul Boos (George Balanchine trust). Now working as a freelance professional dancer, choreographer and music composer, Baldovin founded the studio to share his knowledge and promote the art of classical ballet.
The studio's team includes George Alexandru Baldovin (founder, ballet dancer, teacher, choreographer and music composer), George Stanciu (artistic assistant, principal ballet dancer, choreographer, teacher and music composer), Iva Vrgoč (co-founder and manager), Almira Osmanović (mentor and adviser, national principal ballet dancer), and Leo Mujić (artistic director, award-winning choreographer and ballet pedagogue). The studio also works with guest artists including Vladimir Malakhov (world ballet star), Staša Zurovac (choreographer), Dinu Tamazlacaru (principal dancer), Kenneth Ludden (artistic director of Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet), and Almira Osmanović.
The studio offers recreational ballet programs for children and adults, professional training for experienced dancers, and private classes. The curriculum spans classical ballet at multiple levels (Novice Ballet, Ballet Basic, Classical Ballet A and B), neoclassical ballet, character dance, en pointe technique, and repertoire classes. Beyond ballet, the studio offers Power Ballet (combining ballet, fitness, pilates, yoga and aerobic training), Body Mechanics (focused on efficient movement and injury prevention), calisthenics, fitness dance, Body Fit, Body Stretch, pilates and yoga.
Private classes are available for 60 minutes and can include up to 3 students. Some group classes feature live piano accompaniment from a professional accompanist. The studio emphasises individual attention, medium-sized groups, and progression at your own pace. Classes are designed for complete beginners through professionally trained dancers.
Studying recreational ballet offers both physical and mental benefits: flexibility, stamina, grace in movement, coordination, improved body posture, muscle toning, strength and endurance. Mental benefits include improved concentration, memory, self-discipline, confidence and musicality, along with mood improvement and stress reduction. The studio also runs Master Ballet Education programmes and the Baldovin Ballet Competition.
