Beginning Ballroom has taught dance in Baltimore since 2002, built on the personal experience of its founders — a couple who learned to dance for their own wedding in 1991 and spent 11 years training and competing before establishing the studio. The studio operates from a custom-built, boutique private studio in a historic 1904 Victorian home, completed in 2005 after the business had outgrown two earlier spaces in just three years.
The studio teaches ballroom, Latin, Smooth and Rhythm styles through group and private lessons. It offers over 40 hours per week of classes at its main studio on Evesham Ave, plus group lessons on Sundays at the Engineers Club in Historic Mt. Vernon. All lessons are by appointment only; walk-ins are not accepted.
Beginning Ballroom specializes in wedding dance lessons for couples preparing for their first dance and reception. A typical first lesson costs $100, includes meeting your instructor, discussing your goals, and starting to dance on the day you visit — the fee credits toward a recommended package if you continue. The studio also runs Date Night Lessons on Friday and Saturday nights at $125 per hour, designed as an alternative to dinner and a movie; these sessions are recorded on your phone at the end, and you're welcome to bring your own beverage.
The instructors all have 29 years of training experience minimum. Studio history
Beginning Ballroom was established in 2002 by dance instructors who began their own journey as a wedding couple with no prior ballroom experience in 1991. After 11 years of training and competing together, winning gold and silver medals and achieving television and film appearances, they founded the studio to offer what they wished they'd had access to during their own dance lessons. Within three years the studio had outgrown two spaces; in 2005 they custom-built a private, boutique studio in a historic 1904 Victorian home.
