Brisbane House of Tango

Brisbane House of Tango teaches Argentine Tango at two locations: Paddington (10 Moreton Street) and Bardon (247 Simpsons Road, enter via Bowman Park). The studio is run by David and Anita, Brisbane's leading tango teachers, both of whom came to tango as adults and have travelled extensively to deepen their knowledge—David to Buenos Aires, Europe and Asia; Anita bringing teaching experience from other disciplines.

Group classes run on Thursdays at the Bardon studio and are structured by level. Beginner Tango (Level 1) requires no dance experience and runs in 5-week blocks with one class per week. Second Step (Level 2) requires at least 5 weeks of recent experience and runs ongoing. Improver (Level 3) requires at least 6 months of recent experience, also ongoing. A Vals/Milonga/Nuevo Tango class alternates in 5-week blocks, requiring 5 weeks of recent experience. All group classes are one hour long, no partner required. The studio also offers private tango lessons, wedding dance lessons, and corporate tango classes tailored to team-building events.

David emphasises connection and creativity between partners, and teaches both leading and following roles. He describes himself as an analytical and enthusiastic teacher who understands that tango is about improvisation rather than routines—your creativity is encouraged. Anita welcomes students into a nurturing environment and focuses on developing technique and a desire to continue learning. The studio keeps students informed of milongas, tango festivals and other events in Brisbane and surrounds.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday by appointment. The studio has an air-conditioned tango dance studio available in Toowong for corporate groups.

You'll attend a one-hour class taught by David and/or Anita, focused on learning how to dance rather than memorising steps. No partner is required, and beginners need no prior dance experience. Classes emphasise connection, creativity and improvisation.

David and Anita are the principal instructors. David came to tango through a ballroom performance, trained in Seattle, and has travelled to Buenos Aires, Europe and Asia to develop his knowledge; he teaches both leading and following roles and emphasises connection and creativity. Anita discovered tango watching a performance at her local sporting club in Brisbane and brings teaching experience from other disciplines; she focuses on technique, intimate connection in the embrace, and nurturing students at all levels.

Beginner Tango (Level 1) requires no dance experience of any kind.
