Bygdelagssamskipnaden (BLS)

Bygdelagssamskipnaden (BLS) is a cultural organization based at Nordahl Bruns gate 22 in Oslo that runs a varied program of dance, theater, choir, music and sport activities. The organization operates several venues and mountain cabins (hytter), and hosts regular events throughout the year.

Dance is central to BLS's work. The organization runs Sunday dances in partnership with Kom og Dans (KOD), held each Sunday with a shared ticket. BLS arranges gammaldans (traditional dance), turdans, bygdedans and songdans in the main hall (Storsalen), while KOD runs swing in Halli. From autumn 2026, dance also takes place in Blåsalen roughly half the time. No partner is required, and all are welcome to attend.

Beyond regular Sunday dances, BLS organizes themed dance evenings throughout the year. Recent events include accordion practice (Øving trekkspill) with Symra, historical dance (Historisk dans), and evenings dedicated to specific traditions such as Valdresspringar. Events typically run between 7–9.30 pm and cost between kr50 and kr150, depending on the program.

The organization also hosts cultural events: BLS participated in Dans, Dans, Dans, a major dance festival held across ten venues in January–February 2026 with over 40 events. The organization maintains an active calendar of events and offers seasonal programs.

BLS is a membership organization with a board, property committee and folk dance committee. The organization owns and rents out mountain cabins including Bondehytta, Buvollen, Hordahytta, Nordfjordhytta, Røkleivhytta, Sunnfjordhytta and Sørlandshytta. BLS also rents out its halls and manages facilities for hire, with rental prices and a calendar available on request.

Drop into a Sunday dance evening where you'll find traditional Norwegian dance, swing or other styles depending on the week. No partner needed; the atmosphere is welcoming to all. Events typically run 7–9.30 pm and cost kr50–kr150.

All are welcome to attend Sunday dances and you do not need a dance partner.
