About this studio
Centre de Danse Cécile Grolet is a classical ballet school located at 23 rue de la Baignerie, near Quai du Wault and within walking distance of central Lille. The school is run by Cécile Grolet, former assistant to N. Loujine of the Paris Opera. The centre operates as both a teaching school and a dance company, offering classes across all ages and levels.
The teaching programme spans classical ballet, barre à terre (floor-based flexibility and strengthening work), and character dance. Ballet classes are structured by age and level: Éveil for ages 4–6, Initiation for ages 6–8, Technique de base for ages 8–10, and Progression with pointe work from age 12 onwards. Teen and adult classes are available at all levels, including complete beginners. Character dance—which the school describes as a stylised exploration of world dances through classical, contemporary and jazz forms—is offered for children from age 8 and for adults at all levels. The school also offers private lessons for amateurs and professionals preparing for competitions and advanced training programmes (EAT).
Beyond dance, the centre provides individual meditation sessions tailored to your needs, as well as energetic therapy and healing magnetism work. All activities are framed within a holistic approach to culture, art, wellbeing and personal development.
Classes take place in modern, pleasant facilities in a pleasant neighbourhood close to the city centre, approximately 5 minutes from Rihour metro station and near the Grand Place. The school holds open days in the week before Christmas and the final week of June, giving prospective students a chance to watch children and adults dancing.
New students can join at any point in the year. Trial lessons are available; first-timers pay a trial fee (€5 until 28 September 2026, then €15 from 30 September 2026 to 21 June 2027) which is deductible from subscription fees. Children remain at the same level for a minimum of two school years to ensure solid learning and confidence. The school emphasises that commitment, regularity and seriousness enable genuine progress and enjoyment.

On your first visit, bring the completed trial coupon and your trial fee in cash (no card payments). Arrive early to use the changing rooms and prepare; you will meet the instructor at class time. For trial classes, leggings, a vest and socks are fine; you do not need specialist shoes yet.

Adults take ballet in clear demi-pointe shoes (canvas, two-soled) for women and black for men; character dance requires black canvas heel shoes for women and black canvas jazz boots with small heels for men. Clothing should be fitted enough for the instructor to observe your posture.
