About this studio
Constance Grant Dance Centre has been inspiring dancers in Sheffield for nearly 100 years. Founded in 1925, it remains rooted on Psalter Lane, where three bright and fully equipped studios welcome everyone from parent-and-toddler groups to adults. The centre is family-run — Tracey Southern, granddaughter of founder Constance Grant, is the current principal and an IDTA Senior Examiner.
Every teacher at CGDC is IDTA qualified and DBS checked. The team includes Tracey Southern (IDTA Senior Examiner and coach for teacher training), Jessica Spick (Licentiate member of IDTA, qualified Acrobatic Arts instructor, Progressing Ballet Technique certified), Rachel Dewhurst (Licentiate IDTA member with Distinction in Ballet), Abigail Stansall (Level 4 IDTA member, certified Acro and PBT instructor), Katie Granger (Associate/Level 4 IDTA member, experienced choreographer), Jade Wing (qualified acro, IDTA gymnastics dance and fitness instructor with performance credits including James Bond Skyfall Premier and West Ham United Football), Martha Lamb (Level 4 IDTA member with Distinction, BA Hons in Dance from DeMontfort University, extensive experience at the Crucible and Lyceum), and Harriet Hussey (working towards Level 4 IDTA Diploma whilst studying Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University). Teaching assistants include Megan Phillips and Amelia Bennett.
Children's classes span parent-and-toddler Move with Me Dance and Move with Me Acro, through Pre-School Ballet and Tap, Pre-School Acro, Rosette Ballet Tap and Mini Street, IDTA Ballet from first positions to advanced grades, IDTA Tap/Theatre Craft, Contemporary Modern Jazz, Acro, Commercial Street Dance, and Contemporary Lyrical. Adult classes include Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, and Barre Fitness, all designed for all levels from complete beginners to those returning after a break.
Beyond classes, the centre runs Dance Camps and Workshops (open to everyone, not just CGDC pupils), birthday parties with tailored themes and exclusive studio use, and room hire for rehearsals, private lessons, meetings and one-to-one coaching. Many former pupils have gone on to professional careers or teaching; countless others have achieved personal goals and discovered a lifelong love of dance.

Studio history
Constance Grant Dance Centre was founded in 1925 and has remained on Psalter Lane ever since, becoming a cornerstone of the Sheffield dance community. The centre continues to be run by the founding family — current principal Tracey Southern is the granddaughter of founder Constance Grant and was trained here by her mother Judith Silvester before studying Musical Theatre & Teacher Training at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom and enjoying a professional career on stage and cruise ships.
