About this studio
Copper Studios is a performing arts school in Old Basford, Nottingham, founded by Harry and Meg Hindley. The studio began in September 2015 as a single Musical Theatre class at Nottingham Girls Academy with six students. Demand grew rapidly through word of mouth, leading the founders to expand to larger venues including The Fernwood School in Wollaton and Kimberley Parish Hall under the name Nottingham Youth Performance Academy (NYPA). By 2017, they had opened a West Bridgford branch at Wilford Church Hall and were running workshops and private singing lessons alongside school activities. In 2018, they secured their current purpose-built studio on Arnold Road, converted from an old factory into a vibrant performing arts space.
The studio teaches dance, acting, and singing to students aged 3 to 18. Classes are offered weekly and you can book a free taster session to try before committing. The teaching team includes Harry Hindley (Managing Director), Meg Hindley (Artistic Director), Georgia Dodman, Rhianna White, and Shae-Love Jackson-Reid as tutors. The studio provides a realistic outlook on the performance industry while building confidence, social skills, and technique.
Copper Studios runs multiple productions throughout the year, giving students opportunities to showcase their work on stage. Their Elite programme offers rigorous training with multiple weekly meetings and a comprehensive curriculum for students serious about advancing their performing arts skills. This programme includes professional training, drama school prep, musical productions, industry masterclasses, holiday workshops, and theatre trips. Recent productions include Hadestown (Teen Edition, WW2 concept) performed at Bonington Theatre in Nottingham with a cast of 24 students (5–7 February 2026), and a Summer School production of Shrek Jr.
The studio's large dance studio is designed for choreography, learning and creating, while a dedicated singing studio contains extensive music resources. Choreography and video production have featured prominently in recent showcase videos, with Meg Hindley creating choreography for pieces including 'TV Off' (Kendrick Lamar) and 'Alter Ego (The Power Shift)' (Doechii). Parents report high standards of training, strong discipline, and an engaging, inspirational atmosphere where students develop work ethic and personality alongside technique.
