About this studio

DCD The Academy is a bachata-focused dance studio in Carrollton that teaches all levels, from complete beginners to advanced dancers. Classes run Monday to Thursday, 5 PM to 9 PM, with 10 hours of weekly instruction across multiple styles and levels.

The curriculum is structured and progressive. Beginners start with the Absolute Beginner class on Wednesdays at 6 pm, learning fundamentals like lateral steps, forward and backward movement, closed and open positions, turns, and basic figures. From there, the path moves through Level 1 (Moderna), Level 1.5 (Traditional), Level 2 (Moderna and Sensual separately), and Level 3 (Fusion). There is also a Footwork & Body Movement class for all levels with no partnerwork required. Each level has a detailed syllabus: Traditional teaches moves like Bonao, Dile que no, and Tikita; Sensual focuses on body rolls, head rolls, hip isolations, and musicality; Fusion combines traditional, moderna, and sensual material with connection drills and dynamic combinations.

DCD runs regular group classes at drop-in rates of $35 per class, 5 days per week, teaching all styles of bachata. First-time students can try one month unlimited for $100. Private lessons start at $150 per lesson and cover social dance, choreography, wedding dance, and Quinceañera routines. The studio also offers closed-group programmes: a 4-week Kizomba course that starts the beginning of each month, Salsa Saturdays, and Sensual Advanced closed groups for dancers competing in Jack & Jills events. Bachata Lab is an advanced two-day closed training programme focused on technique, body movement, connection, musicality, and flow, costing $50 (free for unlimited members).

Social dancing happens four times per month with an amazing vibe, guaranteed improvements, and the chance to make new friends. DCD also hosts monthly Bachata socials featuring international and interstate DJs and artists, with pre-sale rates available. Pop-up socials are advertised on social media. The studio runs a Ladies Team for women who want to train, grow, perform, and develop styling, technique, musicality, and stage presence.

Instructors include Sebastian Fonyo, Elisa Cano, Laura & Bryan, Fernando Badillo, Samantha, and Chris. Student testimonials highlight their teaching quality and dedication to progress: one student noted they are "seriously the best dance teachers in Dallas" who "push and challenge" and see potential; another praised Sebastian and Elisa as "the best bachata teachers in town" whose "performance teams are the best in Dallas." Registration is online only; there are no in-studio registrations, only check-ins. The studio also offers shoe rentals and sales by appointment.
